Hotels & Hospitality Careers – investing in the future

In February, the Crowne Plaza Limassol hotel team were proud host of a DISCOVER SESSION all about “hotels & hospitality careers” for 50 students from the St Barbara High School. The event was designed to inspire the next generation of hospitality professionals. Additionally, the event provided valuable insights into the dynamic world of hotels and tourism.

When Crowne Plaza Limassol was invited to be part of this initiative by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, we were delighted to accept. It is so important to support our local schools in educating young people and helping children discover their passion. We make a point of having summer jobs available for local high-school students, and of keeping positions for practical training open for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students attending hospitality schools. We are invested in the future of “Cyprus hospitality”. It’s fantastic when schools, hotels and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism work together to inspire future hospitality leaders.

Firstly, It is imperative to show students all the different job roles available in hotels and the opportunities available to youngsters who choose to pursue a future in hotel & hospitality careers. Most importantly we must consider that the hospitality sector is one of the largest employers in Cyprus. Most people outside the industry are usually aware of the front-line positions (receptionist, waiter, cleaner). They are much less familiar with roles which take place behind the scenes (revenue management, marketing, accounting, purchasing, IT). Moreover, there is a plethora of opportunities in hotels, and one of the great things about our industry, is the prospect of career progression and growth.  For example: from Cook to Chef, from Waiter to Manager, as well as Front Desk Agent to Revenue Director and beyond.
