Giving for Good month is a fantastic way for colleagues to come together and contribute towards IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow commitment. By 2030, we want to improve the lives of 30 million people in communities around the world.
Giving for Good month is part of IHG’s flagship programme for communities and charitable giving. It’s about team members from IHG franchised and managed hotels doing their part, from volunteering and taking care of the environment. This September the Crowne Plaza Limassol embraced the opportunity to get involved!
Firstly, we would like to thank every team member for playing an active part in this year’s IHG GIVING FOR GOOD September campaign. As a result of your efforts, we broke last year’s contribution record. Go team!
We organized a variety of charity games with prizes including bingo, darts, billiards and a beach party to inspire charitable giving. The team raised €395 for charity for these activities. Furthermore, the hotel matched the amount, and €790 in total was donated to Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF). The PASYKAF charity provide services and support to cancer patients and their families all over Cyprus.
We collected clothing, shoes and accessories throughout the month of September. In addition to the monetary donation described above, the 12 bags of clothes we collected were also donated to the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF).
Our annual Beach Clean was especially successful this year. It took place at our hotel beach and we collected a record 15 bags (105kg) of rubbish. Moreover, the active participation of members from all our departments was fantastic. All this was accomplished in partnership with TUI and the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI). The motto this year was ‘keep our sea and sand plastic free’.
Blood banks in Cyprus have been struggling in recent years because of the imbalance with supply and demand. Therefore, this September we organized another successful blood donation at the hotel. Notably, 23 people participated in the blood drive, and 11.5 litres of blood were subsequently collected for the Limassol General Hospital.
Last but not least, we undertook a monetary collection for the local ‘Hope for children’ charity. As a result, the team collected €200. The hotel management then matched the amount and €400 was ultimately donated to the charity. At ‘Hope For Children’ they dedicate themselves to improving the lives of vulnerable children around the world.
Above all we would like to thank each and every member of the team for their efforts! To sum it up, congratulations to all for #making it happen!
You can also donate to each charity we supported by following the links in our blog. We will continue to support various initiatives throughout the year.
